2017 was quite a ride and i'm not even on the back seat :/ despite Girl's Day being so busy individually, they finally had a comeback after 1 year and 8 months. I might have also missed most of last year's dai5y shenanigans but i was still able to read some major scoops. They were memorable enough that it still lingers and echoes in my memory. 2018 is trying to be different. It's been quiet and it's trying to tell that ... this is it. We still have to wait for next year. Uncertainty is looming but here we are, trying to convince ourselves that things will get better (it won't).

but here are the news that shook us and captured our hearts.

1. Girl’s Day’s Song “Female President” Experiences Sudden Spike In Popularity (but we won't hear this iconic song ever again....)

The effects of the recent political developments in South Korea are multifaceted and its reach can be found in even the music charts in Korea.

According to Melon, Girl’s Day’s song “Female President” experienced a sudden surge in popularity after the announcement of Park Geun Hye’s impeachment and topped the “sudden surge” music chart at 1 p.m. KST on March 10.

The second and third spots in the same chart were occupied by Girls’ Generation’s debut song “Into the New World” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” respectively.
Girl’s Day’s track was released in 2013, just 4 months after South Korea’s first female president, Park Geun Hye, took office. The song contains lyrics conveying female confidence like, “Our country’s president is now a female. So what’s the big deal? Why can’t girls do it first?”

We're all so happy that it gained popularity when we read the news but the attention was for the wrong reasons. GDI. I'm still hoping people will forget about putting political attachment to this song. Just let this song be the way that it was. ugh

2. Girl’s Day’s Agency Clarifies Hyeri’s Winning Lottery Ticket Was A Prank (It's just a prank bro...)

On the April 6 broadcast of Mnet’s “New Yang Nam Show,” Girl’s Day appeared as guests – and something extremely unexpected happened.

During the show, the Girl’s Day members got some instant lottery tickets as prizes for winning a quiz. While on break, the members scratched their tickets.

While scratching hers, Hyeri startled, saying, “I think I won something.” She showed her ticket to the staff and asked them to check her ticket for her. It turned out that she actually had a winning ticket for 20 million won (~$17700 USD). She laughed hysterically after realizing that she actually won the lottery.

Initially, a source from Hyeri’s agency Dream T Entertainment said, “Hyeri winning the lottery was completely real. Everyone was shocked.” They added, “I’m not sure if she has cashed it yet, but we can confirm that it was not a prank.”

However, a little while later, they changed their statement, saying,  “When we checked with the production staff of the show, they informed us that it was a prank. The managers on scene had been tricked as well.”

It was really cool at first but then in an unfortunate turn of events, it was revealed to be just prank and it sparked outrage among viewers. GDI lol. Worst prank since minah-leeteuk kissing.

3. Girl’s Day’s Sojin And Eddy Kim Confirmed To Be Dating (and broke up before new years...)

After having denied the reports earlier about the relationship between Girl’s Day’s Sojin and Eddy Kim, Girl’s Day’s agency DreamT Entertainment confirmed that the two are indeed in a relationship.

In their official statement, the agency said, “Sojin and Eddy Kim began to express interest in each other and have very recently started dating.”

In regards to their initial denial of the relationship, the agency stated, “We apologize for not conveying the right information in our previous statement in response to the sudden news reports. The reports were initially denied because they wanted to protect one another. We were just being cautious. However, after consulting with one another, the two decided to officially announce that they are indeed dating.”

Girl’s Day’s Sojin stated, “I hope that people will watch over us kindly. I hope that people will continue to send their love and support to us as we continue to work in this industry.”

Everyone was really happy when this news came out. We were like "yaaas, finally". I even thought there will be a collab or something in the future. It's sad that it didn't last. Wishing them both happiness and let's just all sing Kumbaya...

4. Girl’s Day’s Hyeri And Actor Ryu Jun Yeol Confirmed To Be Dating (justice was served after reply 1988 disappointment... queue "God's Plan")

On August 16, Ryu Jun Yeol’s agency C-JeS Entertainment confirmed the reports that the actor is dating Girl’s Day’s Hyeri and stated, “Ryu Jun Yeol and Hyeri recently progressed from being friends to a couple, and they are still in the early stages of their relationship. We apologize to the fans for these surprise dating reports.”

They continued to add, “We ask that people watch over them warmly as their relationship is still in the early stages. Thank you.”

DreamT Entertainment also confirmed the news and said, “We checked with Hyeri, and we can confirm that Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol are currently dating, progressing from being friends to being in a relationship. As their relationship is still quite new, we ask that people watch over them warmly.”

Ssamundong squad was really og and i was really glad when i read the news about this lol. Nothing much i can say. They've been private as always and going strong.

5. Girl's Day proudly say they broke the '7-Year Curse' (and DreamT continues to break our hearts)

The members discussed the '7-Year Curse' haunting idol groups, as the girls said with confidence, "We will break the curse," and revealed, "We have already renewed our contract in hopes to continue  to perform together as a group."

The girls also mentioned how they didn't even think twice before renewing their contract with their current label, Dream Tea Entertainment.

I hope they will really think twice before renewing their contract. These past 3 years really stalled potential solo or comebacks because of individual activities. I'm still struggling to accept this timeline and i wish i could go back 4 years ago.

6. Sojin and her acting potential (...will there be more?)

maybe you just read news about and didn't even watch.. but Sojin actually had 2 web dramas last year (Hongik Supermarket / Oh! Dear Half-Basement Goddesses) I'm glad i was able to watch it but Sojin has yet to prove herself on another public or cable drama. It's been a while since "The Family Is Coming" but no one really cared on that weekend drama. Sojin has yet to be on the same spotlight as Hyeri, Minah or Yura but i hope she would do more dramas this year since her solo debut will never ever happen.

7. MC Yura is Nay or Yay? (...my thirst is real for a non-mc variety show for Yura though)

"On April 19, a source of tvN stated, “Kim Heechul and Yura will join ‘Life Bar’ as new MCs. With their youthful and bright energy, they will work well with the original MCs Shin Dong Yup and Kim Joon Hyun.”

The revamped show “Life Bar” will air its first episode in mid-May.

Meanwhile, “Life Bar” is a show where stars give their honest opinion on things as they have a drink together."

I'm happy that Yura was really busy back in 2017. She became an MC of 3 different shows! woah. (Life Bar, Beauty Bible, Weekly China)... but will she ever get to be on more popular shows? No ones really talking about those shows and i don't know if she gained fans. The aftermath of her drama role on "Radio Romance" this year, doesn't really say so. Yura needs to be on another eating show i guess.. (remember "Tasty Road")

8. Girl's Day Comeback "Everyday 5" with I'll Be Yours (...one of their best mini)

“I’ll Be Yours” is rhythmic track with a jazzy brass sound, and Minah’s soulful voice in the chorus is very impressive.

In the music video, Minah leads a man down a hotel aisle, and she gives him one of her shoes in the classic Cinderella style. Hyeri is dressed in a white dress at a boxing ring, and she watches as men fight each other over her. Contrary to the way she’s dressed, she’s a fierce boxer as she brings down the last surviving man. Yura plays the piano so passionately that she sets it on fire, and Sojin has men gawking as she puts on some fishnet stockings.

not an album but it's every girl's day fan ever wished for. a title track from ryan jhun, more foreign production involvement, minah & sojin solo tracks. wow. the shortcomings were probably the mv director and choreography could have been better... it's one of the best Girl's Day comeback of all time. DreamT really went all out for sure and then DreamT seems to vanish in thin air afterwards. Short but incredible promotions, like they booked every cable variety shows possible lol. Unforgettable era.

9. Minah's Solo Comeback (...DreamT didn't even try)

“11 Degrees” comes approximately 18 months after her previous solo release. This song also marks the start of her being a singer-songwriter. She wrote the lyrics for the song and worked with Woogie in composing the song.

Minah’s new track describes feelings of being hurt and loneliness. Showcasing her beautiful voice, the music video also shows off her acting skills.

Minah somehow managed by herself. Guesting on radio shows, had that dingo live show too. She haven't had big projects for a long time now. With everything that happened this past several years, will she renew or move on? We'll see next year.

10. Papa Lee got fired by his own company, DreamT (...just wtf)

disappointed but not really had much anything to say but i read that it's the board's / stockholder's decision? The future seems uncertain without papa lee beside girl's day. Some would say it's doubtful for sure that girl's day would renew. Things are still uncertain for now as we head to Girl's Day's 8th year anniversary.
